This is a multi-billion dollar revenue source for cable and satellite providers. They are all taking us for a ride. Did you know you don’t have to pay your pay TV provider $240 a year for the privilege of paying them even more to watch TV? You can simply own your cable box. They have to allow this to stay in compliance with the law. Just look on your TV providers website for the equipment they support and you can buy it online from Amazon. If your cable company still uses a cable card, they must supply you with one. There may be a small fee, but it’s considerably less than renting a box. Recently legislation, called STELAR, has spawned rumors that you can no longer get cable cards. This isn’t the case. The legislation simply removed the requirement that cable providers use cable cards. If your set top box uses a cable card, they still have to supply one on request. Local Channel Bundles Satellite and Cable TV providers use the number of TV subscribers as a metric when reporting to Wall Street. To keep their stock prices up they want you to have set top box. This means they will usually offer a super slimmed down package at a…

If evil and irrationality are truly parts of human nature, they would be evident in society. For both Golding and Conrad, civilization seemed full of mankind’s evil. Golding commented that Lord of the Flies was his “attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature” (Epstein 204). It is about the failure of civilization to overcome evil (Thapliyal and Kunwar 86). Civilization on the island seems to be in ruins, but the outside world is in much bigger shambles. The story…

On activity 1.8 I helped my group members understand the handshake problem, which we first experimented with in a class activity. At first some of my group members wanted to just count the amount of people there were and multiply it by the amount of handshakes that each person would perform if they shook hands with every person. I realized the problem with using this method is that some handshakes would be performed twice, we wanted the amount of handshakes if each person shook hands with every…

Horus’s story started out like Zeus’ in which they both were trying to hide and escape from death. In the beginning of the story, Set kills Horus’s father Osiris. So Isis, who is Horus’s mother, hides him from Set. So when Horus was young, “Isis brought Horus to an island in the papyrus swamps of the Nile delta. It’s first important to note what the word ‘Princeps’ means. It comes from ‘Princeps Senatus’, meaning ‘First among equals’, which gave an individual the privilege of being the first to speak in the Senate and being the first name on the roster. This title was used officially by Augustus (then Octavian) because it had no royal connotations. In actuality, Augustus had auctoritas (‘authority’) far greater than that of merely a Princeps. He was an Emperor, but he did not explicitly say so, for his…

In the Osiris, Isis, and Horus story, the cycle of life is mainly represented by the life, death, and rebirth of Osiris. In a context of nature as well, since Osiris was considered the god of the Nile, it was said that when the river dried up and vegetation died, it symbolized the death of Osiris. The same way during spring, when vegetation started to grow and the Nile River flooded again, it represented the rebirth of the mentioned god. I believe Isis had more than one role. She was Mother and…
