    However realistically we can’t always restrict use to times when we are in our private space. For example, do our technologies have a place in our democratic system? Which in this example would be considered a commons space as only those people with citizenship are considered a part of our democracy. To answer that question yes, our technologies can help upgrade our democracy as it allows us a level of connectivity that has never been experienced before. We now can connect local representatives to the people who their decisions affect to create a local government that can better handle the needs and desires of their population. These benefits at the local level can also be experienced on the state and national levels too as technologies allow for people to instantly connect with the politicians that represent them to better understand the decision-making process as well as allowing for people to their express concerns. This all seems too good to be true but this has in fact been tested before and though it failed it provides us with a jumping off point. This point is Democracy.OS, which was introduced by Pia Mancini in “How to Upgrade Democracy for the Internet Era.” According to Mancini one of the biggest obstacles that they ran into was culture as this is very different then that has been done traditionally.
