On Sunday, March 1, the Lehman Chamber Players hosted a concert in the Recital Hall of the Music Building at Lehman College. There, they played a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonata in B-flat Major, K.454 for Violin and Piano (1784). Then two other compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven which include the Seven variations of a theme from Mozart’s opera, The Magic Flute, and An die Ferne Geliebte (a cycle of six songs “To the Distant Beloved”) Op. 98 for Baritone and Piano (1816). Afterwards a…
Instruments in classical period, apparently the obvious instrumental innovation in the period was piano, it was being developed even Bach has still arrived in Baroque period, fortunately it actually started become a popular music instrument in classical period. In The 10,000-Hour Rule, Malcolm Gladwell writes his analysis on how 10,000 hours can help one excel in an activity. Throughout the course of the years, scholars, researchers as well as teachers have developed a common perspective in regards to the notorious 10,000-hour rule. Of course, the idea that one must practice and devote their relentless time to a certain activity in order to thrive was developed and reshaped by many. Yet, Malcolm Gladwell presents this idea in a new light which utterly…
Haydn’s “Baby-Stage” Sonata When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart focused on opera composition and Ludwig von Beethoven experimented innovations in various musical forms, Joseph Haydn was greatly responsible for the invention and refinement of sonata form in the classical period . His earliest sonatas, dedicated to Prince Nikolaus Esterházy, feature galant style, and reveal Haydn’s growth as a composer in his early years. Among these pieces, Haydn piano sonata in F major, Hob. XVI: 23 shows a very solid…
he was the “master of all of us.” Although Haydn enjoyed working with the Esterházy family for over thirty years, he was lonely. He moved to Vienna, Austria, and became well-acquainted with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart and Haydn played string quartets together, and attending each other’s rehearsals. Mozart even dedicated six quartets to his dear friend. They were close colleagues and respected each other. After Haydn died, Mozart’s Requiem was played to honor him. On his way home, Haydn…
Analysis: Mozart Symphony no.40 in G minor K.550 (1788), first movement There are more questions surrounding Mozart's final three symphonies nos. 39, 40, and 41 or "Jupiter" than answers. Mozart’s Symphony in G minor, K550 “is one of the greatest final trilogies that Mozart composed and the process of composing this piece lasted from six to eight weeks during the summer of 1788”(Heninger, 2003, p.1) Firstly, it was written for “strings, flutes, oboes and bassoons. It is then revised to give…
On Friday, November 25, 2016, at 8pm, I attended the Mozart and Brahms’ concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall’s Los Angeles Philharmonic in Los Angeles, California. This was a very nice venue with a mixed crowd. They offered a student rush discount ticket which was amazing because they were pretty good seats for $10. The concert was held on “casual Friday.” People were still a little over dressed for being a casual night. As soon as I walked into the concert hall, I noticed an organ straight…
On Sunday on November 26, 2016 at 2:30, I viewed and listened to 3 musical pieces composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was a composer, born in Salzburg ,during the Classical era. The symphony was conducted by Jeffrey Kahane, which also happened to be the pianist for the Symphony. The concert was held at The Houston Symphony, which was a two story auditorium with approximately 400-500 seats. The auditorium was open spaced, surrounded by walls to improve sound quality. During the concert, the…
Whether it be French, Italian, or English Opera, it’s very dramatic. Handel’s “Piangeró La Sorte Mia” is no exception. George Frideric Handel (Georg Friedrich Händel) like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a child prodigy. Born in Halle, Germany in 1685, began studying music at the very early age of 7 under organist Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow despite his father’s disapproval. The young Handel then began composing music at the age of 10 which mostly composed of church cantatas and chamber music. From his…
Esparza. Although not quite an orchestral performance, the music presented still incorporated many of the concepts that we have reviewed over the semester, and a handful of composers that we have reviewed as well: two of these composers being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, and Giuseppe Verdi. The overall nature of the pieces selected involved various genres that incorporate a singer in its scoring, as well as a piano and at one point a clarinet. Some of the genres utilized in the…
