Tissue Specificity of Amino Acid Metablolism - Flashcards: 40

Description: The supply of amino acids from the diet and protein turnover form an amino acid pool. This pool supplies the liver with gluconeogenic substrates, other cell types with glutamine and a large pool of high quality precursors for the synthesis of new proteins and other nitrogenous compounds. The net flux of amino acids between tissues depends on the supply of amino acids and the demands for their use makde by individual organs.

Production Of Acetyl CoA From Fatty Acids. Ketone Body Synthesis and Utilization. - Flashcards: 57

Description: Fatty acids represent the principal form of stored energy in humans. These long chain carbon-containing molecules are broken down primarily to acetyl-CoA via a process known as ß-oxidation. Ketone bodies are primarily synthesized in the liver from fatty acids stores and serve as a significant source of fuel and energy for certain tissues, including the brain under conditions of glucose deficit.
