            <title>Attachment</title>
            <link>http://www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/view/1573530</link>
<description>1 Attachment an emotional bond between two people. It is a two-way process that endures over time. It leads to certain behaviours such as clinging and proximity-seeking, and serves the function of protecting an infant.
2 Collectivist cultures Any culture that places more value on the ‘collective’ rather than the individual, and on interdependence rather than independence. The opposite is true of individualist culture.
3 Continuity hypothesis The idea that emotionally secure infants go on to be emotionally secure, trusting and socially confident adults.
4 Cultural variations The ways that different groups of people vary in terms of their social practices, and the effects these practices have on development and behaviour.
5 Culture refers to all the rules, customs, morals and ways of interacting that bind together members of a society or some other collection of people.
6 Day care This refers to a form of temporary care (i.e. not all day and night long), not given by family members or someone well known to the child, and usually outside the home. It is sometimes referred to as ‘non-parental care’
7 Disinhibited attachment A type of disorganised attachment where children do not discriminate about people they choose as attachment figures. Such children will treat near-strangers with inappropriate familiarity (overfriendliness) and may be attention-seeking.
8 Imprinting innate readiness to develop a strong bond with the mother, which takes place during a critical or sensitive period.</description>
