            <title>Fermi Questions Constants</title>
            <link>http://www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/view/357743</link>
<description>Fermi Questions has been a Science Olympiad event since 2005. In the event, each pair of students is given 30 problems where the answer could be excessively high or low (such as &quot; What is the mass of an electron in tons?&quot;). The final answer is the order of magnitude, that is, if the answer is about 10^x, then the Fermi answer (the answer that is then graded) is x. If the number is more than 5*10^x, it rounds up to x+1. To prepare for this event, students often memorize physical constants, such as Avogadro's number. For this set, the answer is merely the log of the number, to two decimal places. For example, Avogadro's number is now 23.79. In this new system, you round up if it is more than x+.7, not x+.5 (x is an integer). Note: All distances are in km, all masses in kg, all areas in km^2 and all volumes in L unless otherwise noted.</description>
