He wanted Manifest Destiny --- The duty to take new land. --- He wanted to annex Texas. 

In 1844, when he won, he annexed Texas. 

Polk sent Sidell to Mexico City to buy them ---- they said no! --- Polk started a fight by sending troops = Mexico American War 1846-1848

Polk caused sectional tension --- By annexing Texas which led to the WIlmot Proviso.
Sending in troops led to the Mexican American War!</description>
