He is constantly following around two other children, Gregory and Danita. They are both his best friends, and he is very close to them. Thomas told me he was invited to Danita’s birthday party and couldn’t wait to get home so that he could make her bracelet. This is an example of Freud’s Latency stage when children are focused on making friends rather than the early childhood stages that once were their only focus. (Berger, 2014, pp. 368)
Thomas is a beginner reader and gets very excited when he is able to read a book. He gives high fives to his teacher and runs to tell Gregory and Danita that he was able to read a book. This is an example of Erikson’s stage of Industry vs Inferiority, “children busily practice and then master new skills.” (Berger, 2014, pp. 40) Thomas is obviously very excited about mastering a new skill of reading.
Betty represents the Adolescent stage, she has a boyfriend, and they can be seen walking through the hall together holding hands.
