In addition to this rigorous MLT coursework, I have taken classes such as organic/biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, and psychology. This program required a 4-month clinical practicum internship in all major department in the clinical laboratory. My internship was taken place at two different Holzer locations; Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio and Holzer SSC 850 Laboratory in Bidwell, Ohio. At Holzer Medical Center, my rotation focused 1 month in bloodbank. Also at this location I practiced inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy as well as specimen processing. At the Holzer 850 Laboratory, the rotation was 3 months where I trained in microbiology, hematology & coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, special chemistry, and drug screen. In all departments, I performed numerous stat and routine testing on various samples with accuracy and precision conducted in a timely manner. I also observed and conducted quality control and calibrations. The analyzers I used in my clinical experience were the; Ortho Pro Vue, GEM 3500, Vitek 2, Beckman Coulter LH750, Beckman Coulter ACL TOP 500, Clinitest Dipstick Analyzer, Siemens Vista Dimensions 1000T, Architect c4000, Cepheid GeneXpert Infinity-48s, and Diasorin Liaison. I have fluent knowledge, comprehension, and conceptual skills in all major areas and departments of the clinical laboratory. I am ready and willing to further my education through this challenging UC BS MLS distance learning program to reach my life goal as a medical laboratory scientist. I plan on after receiving my MLS to take the ASCP certification exam to be registered as well as planning on taking a specialty exam in hematology. I would like to become a laboratory manager. Later, I plan on furthering my education at West Virginia University to enter their pathologists’ assistant program to become a pathologists’
