This week in class, I learned a multitude of new things including how to write this paper. Throughout my paper, we will explore all the new things I have learned through becoming a new college student, my first week of classes and reading the chapters from the introduction to psychology textbook.
The start of a new journey
Monday, November 21st was my first day as a new college student, I had no idea what to expect and living a little over forty-five minutes away, with class starting at six thirty, I thought I had better leave my house two hours early just in case traffic was bad. To my surprise, I arrived exactly forty-six minutes after leaving home, so I sat in my car and contemplated what the night was going to be like …show more content…
Skinner says about behaviorism and I can see how it relates to parenting. Skinner believed that, “actions are controlled by rewards and punishments” (Coon & Mitterer, 2016, p. 26); the same goes along with authoritative parents who use, “management techniques which combine praise, recognition, approval, rules, reasoning and similar means of encouraging desirable behavior.” (Coon & Mitterer, 2016, p. 97). For example, I remember way back to my days of first grade, we had a chart with different colored index cards that would go into a slot next to your name, if green was showing that meant that you had behaved and didn’t get into any type of trouble for that whole day, then behind the green was yellow, yellow was a warning, after your warning card was when you started to get into trouble. Red came next and that was fifteen minutes off of your recess time. No kid in the first grade wants to have to sit inside and do extra school work while their friends are all outside playing. After that, it kept getting worse and worse, blue came after red and that was a phone call home to your parents, then came purple which was a trip to see the principal. Throughout the week, the teacher would …show more content…
In regards to my hour drive to Keiser, I now am more confident in where I am driving to and can safely leave my house at a reasonable time without worry of being late, no need to continue to arrive forty-five minutes ahead of time, to sit and ponder my thoughts while wasting time, waiting for class to begin, instead I can stay home longer and work on my reading for the week or my paper writing.
