The rising action begins when the grandmother with an attempt to keep the children entertained begin to tell them about a house that has a secret panel in Georgia, right where they would be traveling through. The children get so excited and begin to try their hardest to convince their father, Bailey to stop at the house with the secret panel. With many whines and screeches they convince their father to travel the extra 20 minutes to see the home. Within their travel they experience a fairly traumatic car accident that leaves them stranded. This is another leading element to the rising action. You could be raised by the best of parents and live in a happy and healthy home and still not be a good man. It also has a twist though. You could also see it as the author is trying to say "What defines a good man?" If the grandmother sees the Misfit as a good man then what are the real bad guys still locked up in the penitentiary? Are they considered bad guys? The story also shares a religious component where the grandmother encourages the Misfit to pray that Jesus would help
