For example, in Ashley’s situation she explains that her parents always give their attention to her older brother. “ My parents are always making sure he’s doing ok on his own.” In other words, since her brother has a tight schedule with work and school, her parents start to miss him and give most of their attention to Ashley’s brother. This example relates to the story A Visit to Grandma’s. In the story, Mama gives her fullest attention to G.L. and this made charles feel out. Another example of neglect occurs in Mariana’s situation. For example, her father is always making sure her brother is ok. Her mother is always giving her attention to her younger sibling. Mariana explains,“ Since my brother’s off to college for most of the year, my parents, especially my father, miss him.” This suggest that her father is very attached to Mariana’s brother, and since he left to college and her father doesn’t sees him for most of the time, he gives him the most attention when he’s back. Furthermore, this situation compares to the story To Kill A Mockingbird. Atticus did not payed his full attention attention to Jem and the narrator. He was too focused on work that he put his fatherhood
