Breathing is not that easy for some people and they can deal with many complications at any point in time, the main focus is abnormal breathing patterns, but mainly Cheyne-Stokes. Many people who have an abnormal breathing pattern has a consistent rate and rhythm. Abnormal breathing patterns are categorized into two general categories. The first category is directly related with pulmonary and thoracic diseases which deals with increasing the work of breathing, this is caused by having help from the accessory muscle. “The common causes of pulmonary and thoracic diseases is narrowed airways (COPD, asthma), “stiff lungs” (severe pneumonia, pulmonary edema), or a stiff chest wall (ascites, anasarca, pleural effusion).” (Egan 343-344) Increased work of breathing can also be used with retractions which is collapsed inward of the skin …show more content…
They all have a similarity, but they are all almost completely different in most ways. Cheyne-Stokes respiration is one of the major challenges in abnormal breathing patterns as stated above the respirations become faster and deeper, after respirations they become slower and shallower and at the end of each respiration a period of apnea will occur. Treatments are effected to help control these type of abnormal breathing patterns. CPAP decreases Cheyne-Stokes respirations by fifty percent average. Adaptive servo-ventilation is more effectively improves Cheyne-Stokes respirations than the other type of treatments. However, as you can see there are many types of causes that make each type of abnormal breathing pattern occur and if one of these type of breathing patterns happens to you, these need to be seen by a doctor as soon as
