As Lucy Kalanithi philosophizes, “From life to death, the ultimate transformation that awaits us all” (221), Isaac Asimov mirrors, “Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.”, those who are dying need to accept that it happens to everyone -- including them -- to make the transition as smooth as possible. Doctors are helpful on this journey, doing their best to heal you or make you comfortable as you can if there is nothing else to do. They say things to keep spirits high, such as “It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so get your daily rest” (Paul Kalanithi, 2014). This quote can also be interpreted that dying is going to take a lot of your energy, so accepting instead of blatantly refusing the idea of dying will reduce stress and will help you rest in your last experiences of this life. The less stressed you are over the state of your own life, the better because at this point it’s almost entirely out of your control. Let the doctors do what they can, and if they help you to survival then that’s even more weight off your shoulders! The doctors are the experts and stressing about the inevitable will only cause more strain on your already weakened body. Calm acceptance and following doctor’s instructions will be the best chance to make the most of your life
