Besides being an important trade route, there is a mountain range that runs from the northeast to the southwest, dividing the Northern provinces from the rest of the country. This mountain range is called the Hindu Kush. The Hindu Kush has a continual threat of landslides and avalanches because of seismic activity in the region. The highest peak is located on the Hindu Kush, known as the Noshaq Mountain scaling at 7,485 kilometers high. Afghanistan is so large that there are different types of environments and terrains. The climate in the country is dependent on the area. On the southwest part of the region, it is very dry and barren, mostly desserts full of sand and rocks. It is very similar to our government because it also has three branches, the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branch. The current president of Afghanistan is Ashraf Ghani. He is an Anthropologist by education and was the former Chancellor of Kabul University. Through the years by the U.S. Forces still being occupied in the country and helping support its democracy, the Afghan Government is still has its downfall when it comes to voting. There were reports of corruption due to election rigging. The country does not identify its land by States like the United States. They identify by provinces and currently have 34 provinces. Each province has its own capitol and governor. Because of its history of conflicts and being an unstable country, Afghanistan is a country that is still trying to recover and build its infrastructure to become an independent country. The country is behind on technology and lack manpower for its agriculture sector, with a lot potential, focusing on its rich and abundant amount of natural resources. The country still relies on the U.S. and foreign aid to feed the hungry and provide needs for families who were severely impacted by the present conflict.
