First, one of the main ways of culture spread is conquering. Many places and people were conquered throughout history. When a leader was to conquer another civilization, they would force the population of that society to practice their culture. Because of this, many societies adapted to being overthrown, and began to mimic the practices of the leading culture. Unlike some, Alexander the Great would conquer civilizations without forcing his society's beliefs onto those he overthrew. By doing so, he created a bond between himself and those he conquered, which resulted in the conquered society adopting Alexander's culture.
