The first book that Liesel stole was ironic because she found The Grave Digger's Handbook at her brother's grave. It’s also ironic because Liesel stole the book in same place her brother was “stolen”. He needed more people to spread the hate around so he brainwashed people to spread the hate of Jews around. The Fuhrer started planting seeds of hate in Germany. He did that by spreading around the word that all Jews were bad and needing to be exterminated. “Yes, the Fuhrer decided that he would rule the world with words. ‘I will never fire a gun,’ he devised. ‘I will not have too.’ … His first plan of attack was to plant the words in as many areas of his homeland as possible” (Zusak 445). The symbols in Germany grew from the words that Hitler said to the people. Hitler started with a few words but the words became more powerful and grew into a forest of hate. Leisel and Hitler both use words but Leisel uses her words for good and Hitler uses his words for hate. By seeing this, we see that words can be used for good or bad and Hitler, who used them in a bad way, used them to try to exterminate a whole entire
