This is why Bonhoeffer takes “The Day’s Work,” or “IT” and completely changes the normal attitude with one simple step. Bonhoeffer pushes through the mundane IT to the joy filled, purposeful “Thou.” He explains how Christians can have purpose in the mundane, and how we can take back our lives and our joy during 8-5 on weekdays by focusing on the One who gives life and joy. The solution is prayer, but not prayer as an action but as a mindset. By redefining prayer as a mindset Bonhoeffer brings practicality to 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.” Whenever I used to hear this verse it always confused me because I wondered how this was possible.
