When certain people hear or think of the word “teenager”, what normally comes to mind? Rebellious, Irresponsible, Sexually immature, Mischievous with a desire for the taste of danger maybe? As a teenage in the twenty first century, I have noticed these stereotypes towards us, and I can assuredly argue that these individuals are being prejudiced in their views towards today’s youth. It is not civil to categorize all teens in a similar manner. The older generation need to recall that they used to be like us at one time; Carefree, wild, fun loving, the list goes on. We do wish to be independent, yet, similar at the same time. We say we will not partake in certain activities but then change our minds. We lie to our parents in hopes of not getting caught. We agree to not repeat the same mistakes twice, but we do anyway. We do all these things because we are learning, learning from our experiences, experiences that will be cherishable memories, and memories that will bring us joy when we are older that we did not waste our youth. I have changed in many ways since I first started high school. I have learned to not get involved in others problems. I have learned to do my best which will always be enough, I have learned that I do not need to impress anyone else besides myself and most of all I have learned to not let anyone negatively influence me. I try to hold fast to these values as I struggle with daily pressures and issues set by others. We all have our differences which makes us all individually special.
