As a young citizen of Australia, I often think about my understanding of Australian identity.

It is a legend to which every Australian soldier could be called an author, and one that is still being written today on the battlefields of Syria and Afghanistan.
It has become a growing tradition for Australia and New Zealand to recognise ANZAC Day, 100 years later. One day every year is given to the memory of the ANZACs, from dawn until dusk. We remember those who fought, who sacrificed, and who built the values upon which our nation was founded.
We remember the dead upon the shores of Gallipoli, but also the Western front - Greece, the Somme, and Italy and other theatres of war such as Korea and the Pacific Islands.
The spirit of the ANZACs continues today in times of need with natural disasters. At those times Australians come together to ease suffering, to provide food and shelter, to rescue one another and to let the victims know they are not alone.
I think the core of our Australian identity lies within the ANZAC legend, and it should inspire young people like me to embrace the world with confidence and compassion. People who are full with courage and a selfless determination to help one
