A Real Survival Show: Episode Two
How does it feel to be the star of your own show, your very own reality show, which can kill you if you are not prepared? Kill you if you make the wrong decision.
The first episode had you deciding on whether to carry a fixed bladed knife, an ax, machete, or a handgun. Once chosen you live with your decision, just as if you would if you became stranded, you would have to survive with what you had in your pack, vehicle or on your person.
Okay, you have chosen what cutting tool to carry. What's next, what else do you need, what is a priority for survival. Having the right cutting tool means you can make cordage to help build a shelter, fashion tools to hunt with and clean fish and skin and butcher wild game.

Do you see where we are going here? One decision about one item affects your decisions about other items. Think it through before deciding, and know your limitations before choosing. You have to match your gear and materials to your skill, and thus build your survival pack accordingly.
Shelter is a priority regardless of the season. It is something that has to be planned for whenever you venture out. You either need the skills to put one together, or have one that is ready to set up inside your pack.
In most cases, your objective is to survive long enough to be rescued. It may be a matter of hours or days. Part of your survival planning, part of your real survival show must include backup plans. Does anyone know the general location and how long you're expected to be gone? Is there anyone that will alert the authorities if you don't show up for work or show back home when expected because there is more to surviving the wilderness than just having gear and materials with
