Student’s with ASD thrive in a structured environment, and therefore learning environments should be as structured as possible for them. This can be done by providing the students with a schedule of their daily activities which they could follow throughout the day. Novel experiences should be predictable and surprises should be avoided at all times. Changes to the classroom routine or structure should be announced and discussed before they are implemented. These students would benefit from the implementation of behavioral analysis techniques. Teaching functionally equivalent behaviors will also help as student with ASD progress in a general education setting. This will help replace inappropriate behaviors with alternate ones that are productive for the students. Teachers should first identify the inappropriate behavior in direct and observable terms. ABC (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence) charts in the classroom will help teachers analyze their student’s behavior in ways in which they will be able to identify when the behavior occurs, which events maintain the behaviors, and which is the outcome of behavior. Educators can then determine a substitute behavior for the student. Positive reinforcements can be provided to students to reward them for alternate behaviors. All teachers and parents must be consistent with the students when trying to correct inappropriate
