Barbara, a white, successful, woman, decides to experiment and try to live off of a low wage salary. She wants to learn the hardships that low wage workers have to go through. Barbara was given the opportunity to live a life that she never thought she would be living. She was forced to work two jobs already in the first chapter, both of which had harsh working conditions. Even with two jobs, she was unable to pay her rent and live easily. It was necessary for Barbara to sacrifice more of her time to work more than one job. She also had difficulty finding these jobs.
