The marketplace offers four types of coverage called metal levels - bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Each covers the same expenses and benefits but the only difference is the amount the patient pay for the medical costs. The higher the plan, the more the insurance pays for the bill. Within each metal levels are different types of plans. An HMO (health maintenance organization) restricts a person to only using doctors within the plan’s network and the patient pays full cost if the person goes outside of the network. The second way is through the marketplace where the parent may include you in the application for a health insurance plan. However, if the person is not able to get on the parent’s plan, then he or she might be able to purchase a plan through the marketplace. The Catastrophic plan helps a person in the worst case scenarios and costs a low premium but a high deductible. Schools also provide health coverage for its students as well. Overall, young adults under 26 will typically fall under the coverage of their parent’s health plan.

It is important the people get covered in order to receive benefits and to be able to pat for unexpected medical expenses at a much lower rate.
