This is “an opportunity for students to explore interconnections among various venues for learning—courses, labor, service, research, internships, etc.” (BC Active Learning Experience) These programs give you the ability to learn in a real world setting. For example, an internship gives the student the opportunity to participate in an aspect of their potential future career. It also gives students the opportunity to get real working experience outside of Berea College. All ALEs must include: “learning through sustained, continual engagement in, reflection on, and assessment of experiences; the use of knowledge, imagination, and judgment to address questions in novel contexts; and the exploration of connections between theory and practice, and between learning in courses and from experiences outside the classroom.”(BC Active Learning Experience) Another example is a faculty led undergraduate research experience. I do know however, I want to attend law school somewhere in the New England area. After I graduate law school I plan on pursuing a career either as a human rights lawyer or a criminal prosecutor. Both of these jobs really fit with what I am passionate about. Berea College is already preparing me for life after college. I am taking classes that focus on analytical thinking. I am also on the debate team which will give me experience thinking on my feet. At some point during my time here at Berea College, I plan on interning somewhere in DC.
I am majoring in political science. A major in political science will give me the knowledge to understand the relationship between people and institutions. It focuses on political organizations such as legislatures, courts and executives. There is also a wide range of study, including local, national and international politics.
