The second type of media content for marketing is earned media. Earned media includes any intended actions made by the company to get into the news or gain public recognition. Taco Bell weddings in Vegas, for example, would be earned media because Matt actively designed this promotion for the Taco Bell brand to gain public interest. The fourth estate is important because it allows us to practice our first amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom of press. I believe the influence of the fourth estate is increasing, but possibly for the wrong reasons. In the era of “fake news”, anyone can pretend to be a journalist and publish articles claiming to have the biggest scoop. The popularity of misleading and unverified articles has negatively impacted society.
