In the text Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, it shows that some characters have different mindsets. Most of them either have a growth mindset, meaning they think their intelligence can grow. Or they either have a fixed mindset, meaning they think they’re either smart or dumb. The character Juli Baker has a Growth mindset.…
“The Secret to Raising Smart Kids”, an article by Carol Dweck, stresses the importance of having a growth mind-set. Initially, Dweck explores learned helplessness. This is when someone fails and gives up on the challenge rather than finding the solution. She implies that a lack of ability ruins motivation more than lack of effort. This reveals the two types of students, fixed mind-set and growth mind set.…
In reading Dweck’s research involving the two basic mindsets that shape our lives, I believe I fall into the fixed mindset majority of the time. One example of this is academically. If I were to do poorly on a test, I would only care about what my grade was instead of learning what I did wrong. In the article, she conduct a test with adolescents regarding both mindsets. She found that the effort-praised kids enjoyed working on more challenging problems as opposed to the ability-praised kids.…
There is two different mindsets that people tend to have which is growth or fixed mindset. People with a growth mindset think that success is earned and intelligence can be developed. In the other hand, fixed mindset people think otherwise, for example, they think that people are born with a certain amount of intelligence and you become successful because they were born smart. I do not assume in any way that success comes from innate talent, I know that success comes from the ability to succeed by knowing that you are not born with a certain amount of intelligence. It develops with the effort you put in, furthermore, people become better every time you do fail at something because failure is a motivation to keep trying.…
There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…
Carol did some research about the human mindset in Columbia. Her patients were a couple of students around the ages of 14-17. Carol concluded that there are two different mindsets. A mindset she found was Fixed Mindset which means that this person doesn’t really learn they just want to pass the class by cheating. The next mindset is Growth Mindset this person doesn’t care about the grade as long as they learn.…
In GPS 1010, I have learned that a person’s mindset is established in (1) a particular way of thinking; or (2) a person’s attitude and set of opinions about something. In addition to these items, one can either have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. These mindsets play a huge role in one’s success or failure. The mindset has “two meanings to ability, not one: a fixed ability that needs to be proven and a changeable ability that can be developed through learning” and repetition. To sum up, “the fixed mindset makes you concerned with how you’ll be judged; the growth mindset makes you concerned with improving.”…

Mindset Letter Dear student, I heard you have a fixed mindset. Having a fixed mindset is an interesting idea in today’s society. First of all, a fixed mindset is an idea that supports inherited or “fixed” intelligence. People with fixed minds believe either a person is intelligent, average, or not intelligent. A fixed mindset impacts many lives in our modern world.…
The author, Carol Dweck has explained that it is better that you have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset because when having a growth mindset you have more of a positive attitude and less of a negative lazy…
“If you make a mistake, you got to make it right. I realized I had a choice. I could sit in my misery or I could do something about it” (Jim Marshall,33). Every minute counts, every minute passed is one that you will not get back, with that in mind you have a choice, fix the mistake that was made, or live every day in misery wondering why things didn’t turn out the way you intended them too. This quotation appealed to me, because I believe that everyone can change the way they think, they simply just have to want to, they have a choice.…
Analyzing “Brainology” In the following essay, we will analyze and discuss the article “Brainology” by Carol Dweck. Starting off by the title, the opening paragraphs, the claim, the author’s purpose, methods, persona and closing paragraphs as well. Because I believe Dweck’s article was more effective than ineffective, reasons of why I believe she could've done a better work will be discussed and explained in short. The title the author chooses for this article, “ Brainology”, introduces the audience to what she will be talking about, it is important to point out that the word “brainology’ induces us to think of a very broad topic which could be understood as a study of the brain.…
The paper “Brainology Transforming Students Motivation to Learn” is about the study that what students believe about their brains has profound effects on their motivation, learning and school achievement. It supports the notion that intelligence is something that can grow through hard work and dedication. The story also looks into the tendency for parents to boost the self esteem of their child or teachers to boost the self esteem of their students tends to have negative effects rather than a positive one because if students are told that they are intelligent, they won't be willing to take on challenging work because it will kill their morale if they fail on it. The writer of the paper did a decent job of conveying his research and message through…
Amidst the dawn of civilization, the notions of mindsets have caused several individuals to claim that intelligence was underlined by innate factors, whereas others objected that intellect is a mere reflection of practice and dedication. Henceforth, Carol S. Dweck later clarified and proposed that these two ideals of intelligence serve as fixed and growth mindsets. Furthermore, her research validates that fixed mindsets are quite limited and do not serve growth towards intellectual stimulation. Therefore, making me acknowledge that I had once undergone through believing that the lifestyle of a fixed mindset was the only way to live; yet, that impeded me from advancing towards success. Hence, I realized that intelligence is not fixed and one…
Growth mindset No one is born smart; you have to exercise your brain in order to become smarter. The difference between fixed and growth mindset is that people with a fixed mindset believe you either are or aren’t good at something based on your inherent nature because it is just who you are. However, people with the growth mindset challenge themselves, take charge of their learning and review mistakes until they understand them.…
