One partnership exists with the Spirit of Eagles. The Spirit of Eagles support Native American researchers and their collaborative partners. Christi Patten, PhD, one of the Principle Investigators of Spirit of Eagles, serves a peer-to-peer mentor and collaborator to several MWRN. Spirit of Eagles, initiated in 2000, is funded as one of 18 NCI Special Population Networks. The network focuses on using community-based participatory research (CBPR) to address and respond to culturally relevant research opportunities by increasing education and research with Native American scientist and research stakeholders. The goal of the network is to “reduce cancer health disparities by maintaining and expanding tribal community networks and coalitions”. Spirit of Eagles part of the larger health disparities program at Mayo Clinic and is one of the first programs listed in the currently held Mayo Clinic MOU with Indian Health Services. The network hosts numerous engagement activities (webinars and conferences) and has several Native American women scientists as members. CCPH, established in 1997, is a nonprofit membership organization that encourages partnerships between communities and academic institutions to promote health equity and social justice to increase wellness. CCPH view on health broadly crosses the dimensions of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. CCPH emphasizes partnership that promotes action across the dimensions of health to change circumstances, conditions, and environments that we “live, work, study, pray and play.” (https://ccph.memberclicks.net/about-us).
