CLO 1: The biggest problem throughout my community is the rapid influx in prices for medical insulin. This issue directly benefits from statistical analysis because it would allow people dependent on insulin to purchase necessary medicine at a fair price. Prices would be fair because prices of insulin would eventually decline if drug production were to be increased. As of late, the prices of insulin have skyrocketed. The high deductibles eventually led to harmful changes for the prescription brands that insured insulin dependent patients. This change, forced people with diabetes to either switch insurances, or pay an outrageous amount of money in order to purchase necessary medicine. This shift will lead to even larger problems throughout time. Around ten percent of people in the world have diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This equates to around twenty-nine million people worldwide. Out of all the people, over eight million people were unnoticed cases. The instability in the drug’s pricing has gotten so extreme that some insurance companies have retaliated back at the controlling drug companies and are not covering certain insulin brands. A prime example of an insurance company denying needed services, is the brand “CVS Caremark”. This particular company no longer insures the insulin brand “Lantus”.
