Spar Own Brands offers up to a thirty three percent saving versus the branded alternative. Retailers have “engaged” major brands to produce the own brand product, often to the same specification, at a much lower price. Supplier power has been turned in favour of the retailer through central distribution and own brand product sales increases. The merchandising of the own brand on the lead in on shelves at the expense of the national best seller has increased the sales and “tasting” of the own brand range. The “yellow pack” stigma has disappeared with consumers proud of their spend savings from a high of property worth a few years ago. At SPAR we are lucky to have a complete own brand product range, specification and sales data from Austria and other European countries to base product development on. Within the own brand range now we have three tiers S Budget, Spar own brand and Spar Select or premium range. These operate at a good, better, best ratio in reference to quality and price.
