Changing the oil in your car is something that can be done in the comfort of your own garage. It’s a task you can easily do especially if you want to save a few bucks. Most auto service shops charge a lot just for a simple oil change.
All you need is to follow these simple and easy instructions. If everything goes smoothly, you can finish this task in more or less half an hour. Here are some quick tips.

1. Choose your oil. Read your car manual and check how many miles you need to drive before you start changing your oil. Your manual will also tell you the recommended type of oil for your vehicle including the viscosity and grade.

For manual transmission, shift it into first gear. If it’s automatic, place it in park gear.
3. Drain the oil and remove the oil filter. Once you’re under your vehicle, look for the oil drain plug. Put the drain pan underneath the drain plug to catch the oil.
Turn the plug counterclockwise using a wrench until it loosens up. Then carefully drain the oil. Use a wrench to loosen the oil filter and carefully remove it by hand. Don’t forget to wear latex gloves to protect your hands.
4. Replace the oil filter. Use a new filter and apply a small amount of oil to the gasket. Place the new oil filter into the oil line. Make sure it is properly aligned and tighten the filter.
