Classification over The Lightning Thief
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan has many intriguing characters and fast-moving plot points that can be can be classified. It can be classified as the conflict type of Haven vs. Wilderness and the archetypal storyline of The Quest.
The hero, Percy Jackson, is introduced in the Ordinary World where he attends Yancy Academy in New York City with his best friend, Grover Underwood as The Mentor. His favorite teacher, Mr. Brunner, acts as the Threshold Guardian since he knew all along that Percy was a demigod. Mr.Brunner also sees potential in Percy despite his ADHD and dyslexia. This scene shows Percy Meeting the Mentor since Grover is passing on his own experiences. Percy is forced to Cross the Threshold when a minotaur attacks the car before he can enter Camp Half Blood which represents the Haven since it is place where Percy is momentarily safer and can train to fight. Grover is injured and his mother is burst into dust by the minotaur. Driven by his anger, Percy slays the minotaur and makes it to the Camp Half Blood with Grover. In that moment, he leaves the Wilderness of the outside world which is filled with monsters that could attack him at any moment. Haven vs. Wilderness is the relationship between the protection of Camp Half Blood and the peril of the outside world.
Once inside Camp Half Blood, he meets a centaur named Chiron who actually was Mr. Brunner. Percy meets Annabeth Chase, the Platonic Ideal, who is a clever girl that eventually befriends him. He also meets Luke, the Shapeshifter, who later betrays him. During his stay, Percy learns that he is the son of Poseidon. He then discovers that he is to go on a Quest to find Zeus's stolen lightning bolt that he is framed for stealing and stop Zeus from starting a war.
