The “gold standard” of a nursing homes needs to meet the highest quality of service, environment, and care. Also with the care of the residence, there needs to be a certain standard of care for the family of the resident. I believe that a “gold standard” nursing home would give emotional, physical, and spiritual support. Emotional support may include activities that bring the residents together. It would give emotional support by being mourned people who share the same hobbies or past time. Physical support may incline a high quality enrollment in which there would be active and fitness activities that are appropriate for older people. A nursing home should have spiritual support so the residence are comfortable by growing spiritually. There should be spiritual guidance so that there is emotional support, as well. Spiritual support and emotional support are linked. There would be a positive environment on which the main focus is on the resident. Wichita Presbyterian Manor excelled what I believe is to be the wonderful nursing home. It offered emotional, physical, and spiritual support. The residents were so comfortable and the staff were so caring towards the residents. They offered many activities that the residents were able to go to and bond with one another. There were many camping and physical activities offered during the time of my visit. Also they offered different religious and spiritual services to their residents. They offered their residents options and gave high quality care and services to their residents. There are many factors that can and should influence those who are considering making an age related change in living arrangements. I feel that the most important factor in considering the decision in regarding housing and older adults is meeting the needs and desires of the older adult who is seeking a change in living arrangements. It is important for those who are seeking a a living arrangement what their needs are such as if they need assistance with their medication or if they need a assistance when they bathe. “The majority of older adults desire to live independently and improvements in financial status and physical health support this” (Colye, 1997, p. 255).
