Evolution is “the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth” (Dictionary). What was accepted as the origin of the species before Darwin’s discovery was that all beings were created along with the earth or that they were created some point in time after the earth was created. With both of these beliefs, it was recognized that species were constant and never altered nor changed. Darwin did not accept these beliefs because he noticed the similarity in different species in opposing areas across the world. He also discovered that certain areas meant certain characteristics. He then concluded that every type of species went through natural selection. “The process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring”, this is what natural selection is defined as in the dictionary. Organisms that did not adapt to the environment to better their survival would not make it and eventually would die off. This would be the end of their characteristics that was not beneficial, therefore only the necessary and well suited individuals would reproduce. All others would die off and no longer exist. Darwin announced his idea in 1858. This was after he further studied and completed his work. His theory was read at a meeting of the Linnean Society. Then he published his book On the Origin of Species …show more content…
He died of a parasitic disease. It was one from a certain parasite, called the Chagas disease. It is assumed that he caught from one of his voyages that took him across the globe, causing him to be exposed to lethal diseases, such as the one that killed him in the end. The Chagas disease inevitably causes cardiac failure if left untreated. He also had cyclic vomiting syndrome, which is what made him vomit so much causing him to lose the weight. Additionally of the other two illnesses, he was diagnosed with Helicobacter pylori. This syndrome is similar to stomach cancer along with peptic ulcers. Medical science was not that advanced at the time, thus preventing doctors to be able to treat and free him from the awful diseases that he was diagnosed with. The father of modern life sciences, Charles Darwin, was failed by the scientists at the time. (Jennie Cohen, 11 May
