The colonists began building forts on what the Native Americans considered their territory. Tensions between the colonists and Native Americans grew. Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa tribe planned a rebellion against the colonists living in the Ohio River Valley. He wanted to stop the loss of their hunting land by getting rid of the colonists in the territory.
