Forty-seven percent of the respondents were black. The results showed that 71% of the sample had experience childhood family violence prior to being arrested for intimate partner violence. 59% of the sample reported having experience both maltreatment and witness inter-parental intimate partner violence. White reported having the high amount of childhood family violence at 82% compared to 67% for both black and Hispanic. Those with education beyond high school also reported having higher rates of childhood family violence at 81%, with less than high school at 68% and high school diploma at 65%. Those with childhood family problems had high drug and alcohol abuse problems and more instances of be arrested for fighting. Those with a history of childhood family violence had stronger adversarial sex beliefs and a greater desire to control their partners than those with no history of childhood family
