Section A = Legal basis for Behavior Management Planning
Between the three sections of legal references for positive behavioral interventions I would have to choose section 2 which states, “ The IEP Team must- In the case of the child whose behavior impedes the child’s learning of that of others, consider the use of positive behavioral interventions and supports, and other strategies, to address the behavior’ Development, review, and revision of IEP, Consideration of special factors, 300.324(a)(2)’”( “IDEA - Building The Legacy of IDEA” , 2004). I chose section 2 for the child I observed because the child’s behavioral issues hinder his academic advancement and is distracting to his peers. He mentally shuts down and will not do his work. He has to be sent to the principal’s office on occasions so the other students and teacher can focus on the lesson or independent work. He will sometimes hide under desks or pace around the room which is a distraction to other students and a problem the teacher has to face throughout the day.
