For this Exploring Culture and Perception assignment, I had the chance to interview a student named Claudia Arguello. She is a freshman entering George Mason University this year. In her previous year, she was a senior at Parkview High School located in Sterling, Virginia. She was born in Apopa, El Salvador and migrated to the United States of America when she was very young. Claudia is quite family oriented and loves spending time with them whenever she has the chance to do so. Like myself, she is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field to better the lives of others and provide for them in order to keep them in good health. Although, Claudia and I have many things in common, we both still have our differences with each other. Claudia and I differ in birthplace, religion, co-cultures, and personal characteristics.
Claudia and I differ in birthplace because she was born in Apopa, El Salvador which is an hour away from the capital, San Salvador. I was born in Alexandria, Virginia in the United States which is only half an hour from the capital, Washington D.C. Claudia has self-awareness of knowing that she is El Salvadorian from her birthplace and knowing that she has a close bond with her country. She is able to adapt to the United States and knows her responsibility as an individual. For myself, I have responsiveness in my communication skills. I tend to be quick and I follow a “just do it” motto because I believe that before anything else one must complete their work and then proceed to do other things. Having responsiveness assist with my cognitive complexity because in order to concentrate in the heavy courses for my major I need to put all my concentration on
