The M.S.T was bound together by the government helping with pollutants in the ocean. One oil spill recorded at the time of the Strike Force being known to take action was 1968 at the Tanker Ocean Eagle (Schlesinger, 79). Ocean eagle had over two million gallons of oiled spilled into the ocean the M.S.T helped clean it up (Schlesinger, 79). In the process of them cleaning up the oil spill they helped the wild life cleaning up over 500 pelicans that were caught in the spill (Schlesinger, 78). M.S.T. the marine science technicians have played an extremely important role in many recent national and world wide issues. One of the current events they have been involved in is the issue of “Fracking”. The American term “Fracking” comes from the process of drilling for oil near lake, rivers, and even human homes. When the process of fracking is over it usually leaves oil spooling over in the water supply. This harms the wildlife and even the humans the in environment where fracking occurred, this is where the marine science technicians step in. Marine science technicians are trained to purify and secure a safe environment after a main source of water is contaminated. A Marine Science Technicians job is a very tedious and difficult job, but those who choose to do the job vow to protect all people and wild life from being affected by a natural or manmade disaster that can affect the water we need for
