Introduction: Discussion of cognate strategies, or ways of composing, expression, and presenting a message to the audience. “Cognate refers to knowledge, and strategies meaning techniques to impart knowledge.” Kostelnick, C., & Roberts, D. (2017) in a book Designing Visual Language: Strategies for Professional Communicators. In our textbook, Business Communicators for Success, cognate strategies are defined as “ways of promoting understanding.” There are nine cognate strategies mentioned in the textbook, but in this discussion, I will pick five for my discussion, and the way I have implemented them in the past.

“Expectation is that unstated eager anticipation of the norms, and roles and outcomes of the speaker and the speech.” Kostelnick, C., & Roberts, D. (2017) at a music graduation ceremony I was invited as a guest of honor, having graduated from the same school of music years back. I opened a school of music as well, which has produced great musicians, so the audience was anticipating to hear, how I managed to successfully achieve that. My first statement was, “perfect practice makes perfect.” Everyone in that music hall clapped, with some asking what that meant. The explanation was if you learn to play the correct way you will definitely be great, but learning to play a wrong thing and perfecting it would be a disaster.
d) Conciseness is being clear, or straight to the point, avoiding unnecessary complications. So many words can be used, but not too much to deliver a message to the audience. When given a time limit, one has to stick to that given time and avoid meandering around using unnecessary words to prolong time. Preachers have a tendency to that. Messages that are supposed to take 30 minutes take over an hour, by that time most people will be sleeping, with a few concentrating. If only preachers were economical with their time, they will use words meaning precisely what they mean, and avoid repeating words again and
