The play follows Everyman, and series of character representing earthly possessions, as he takes a journey to the afterlife (eNotes.com). Through this play Van deist sends the message of the importance of good deeds, honest repentance and forgiveness. (eNotes.com). During the medieval time period the catholic church rose to power, this event contributed to the increase in religious works of art such as Everyman. In addition to the historical importance pertaining medieval era Everyman has, there are also important themes present too. These themes of good deeds, forgiveness and confessions resonate strongly with religious people, especially catholics. The Colosseum should be preserved for future generations for various reasons such as its cultural significance shown throughout the engineering and architecture of the building, it’s symbolism of roman power and wealth, and its present value as both a tourist attraction and amphitheatre. The construction of this colosseum was one of the greatest architectural feats in ancient rome because of the use of concrete mix, and the arches “which allowed for lighting, ventilation and it connected the building to make it aesthetically pleasing”(Pruitt, Sarah). The colosseum was also admired for its rich, cultural and exhilarating events such as the 100 days game which included various events such as water battles, gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights. These events were a display of Rome’s power, wealth, and advancement in engineering. The structure was often home to a number of battle reenactments that showed Rome’s victory in war, attributing to their power. There were “Wild animal hunts and fights, trained animal acts, Acrobats and Gymnasts, High wire acts and balancing acts, dancers, Tortures and Executions,wrestling, boxing, and Gladiatorial combats” (Alchin, Linda), which all represent an important part of ancient roman history and culture.
