Thirteen-year-old Johnathan faces a dilemma that everyone has to overcome every single day—hunger. However, it is the middle of summer and it is three o’clock in the afternoon. He knows that his mom will not prepare any food for him, because it is the time right between two meals. Deli sandwiches have so many different varieties, but all variations take time to make. Also, so many different types of meat, types of cheese, types of vegetables…the options are endless, and this is too much for a young boy to handle. There is one sandwich that remains atop Johnathan’s sandwich kingdom, though, a sandwich that can satisfy his immediate needs. The differences are not seen on the outside—all sandwiches are made with bread as the barriers to envelope the goodness contained inside. However, this is where all similarities cease. Instead of turkey, ham, or chicken, instead of lettuce, tomato, or cheese, instead of mayonnaise, mustard, or any other condiment, Johnathan chooses to have peanut butter and jelly as the interior of his mid-meal snack. There is advantages to both, though. Crunchy peanut butter has a little more fiber, while creamy peanut butter tends to have just a little bit more protein and Vitamin E (“The Nutrition Differences”).
