When former President Obama initially introduced his climate action plan, his campaign utilized their powers given to them under the Clean Air Act, as they were aware of congressional gridlock concerning the matter. In order to avoid climate catastrophe, Congress must approve of the market-based solutions. It is no secret that both Democratic and Republican parties want to cut down on the nation’s debt. As a proposed solution for two problems at once, a fine would be imposed on all energy sources that release climate-changing emissions. The implementation of this policy tool could drastically reduce the levels of greenhouse emissions in the United States. Eliminating the unnecessary fossil fuel subsidies would be beneficial in combination with other foreign governments because as a whole we could reduce worldwide emissions in our climate. We can put an end to gridlock by completely getting rid of gerrymandering. No gerrymandering would increase voter turnout and make elections more competitive. Gerrymandering does not give an accurate representation of the American citizens in Washington because in a sense politicians are choosing their voters and not the people choosing their politicians. In addition to eliminating gerrymandering, if our primaries were opened to allow all voters to participate in the election, gridlock could be meet its end.
