A client should understand that career identification does not happen immediately. It happens over a period of time. When using the Career Diamond the counselor will help the client to gain awareness about the need for career development (Anderson, n.d). Next, the counselor will identify the possible avenues that a client can explore (Anderson, n.d). This may cause a client like Taneka to be bewildered because of the many different choices (Anderson, n.d). A client like Taneka may identify the characteristics that will help to choose occupations that may be a good fit for the client (Anderson, n.d). In the next phase of the counseling process, the counselor will help the client identify the values of the client (Anderson, n.d). This will help the client to narrow the client’s focus (Anderson, n.d). The client will then set priorities which can help the client come to a decision and develop a career plan.
