Flipped by Wedelin Van Draanen is a book that includes characters making numerous decisions based on their past interactions with their family and friends. The main character, Juli Baker, made many decisions depending on her past with her crush, Bryce Loski. Her prior involvement with Bryce Loski was filled with Juli being captivated by him while Bryce ignored her as long as possible. From 2nd to 8th grade, Juli had a walloping crush on Bryce and her infatuation for him grew every time she saw him. Juli was utterly blindsided to the fact that Bryce treated her as if she was invisible. Time after time, Loski was rude towards Juli and then one day Juli said,” I felt fire burn in my cheeks…and in a flash I knew--I was through with Bryce Loski” (Draanen, Wedelin. Flipped. Pg.144). Her realization of the horrible treatment that she endured was due to her reflection her past. Every second I am constantly thinking due to school or just the circumstances that I am. The habit of mind of making decisions is a habit I practice and apply to every aspect of my life. How I make my decisions and use my past knowledge affects my life and the people surrounding me. For instance, my uncle and I came up with the idea to place a bet against my dad during the 2017 Super bowl. My uncle had based his bet off of the Patriot’s past winning games and previous super bowls. This H.O.M. can be used in real life situations out of school but there have been many times during school that I needed to use this habit of mind to accomplish and complete my assignments or tests. Everything that I have learned throughout all my years in school have always been applied to new situations that have been provided by my teachers. All the tests that I have taken include me using this habit of mind because I needed to remember information that I had learned to answer questions. The knowledge that I have acquired can apply to a variety of subjects such as math, reading, social studies, Spanish, and many more. In math, I would have to remember certain formulas and in Spanish, I would have to remember all the words that I have previously learned. I use all of my prior knowledge to make current decisions and connections to increase my intellectuality and
