Dylan Thomas had a period of time where most of everything was caving in on him. He had an affair, was in a server amount of debt, could not support his family, and struggling with his writing. This phase could very much so be described as the “wild” phase of his lifetime. Ultimately there was nothing Dylan Thomas could to for himself, descending him into a dark place.
Last but not least, he describes “the grave men” by saying “near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay..” (13-14). At this point Dylan Thomas knows he is reaching death closer and closer each day. His heavy drinking throughout the years are starting to catch up to him. He has gotten to the point where he feels nothing can be done, but still insist on fighting on.
Lastly, he brings up “the father” saying “you, my father there on the sad height, curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.” (16-17). In this particular phrase the author is referring to god or a religious figure. Dylan Thomas is insinuating that god is disappointed with him, but the author wants god to forgive me before he dies. This could be known as his last prayer before death, but even after his prayer he does not lose hope in
