An acquired language disorder is an individual who received a brain injury after an accident. Accordingly, “an acquired aphasia refers to children who have a language disorder secondary to an accident or a disease that alters neurological functioning. Children with acquired aphasia will have begun to develop language normally but then lose all or part of their communicative abilities as a result of neurological damage they sustain”.
The challenges and implications for working with individuals who have an acquired language disorder is being able to communicate with the learner. To that end the learner is not able to requisite their inadequacies. In addition, the student social, academic and cognitive skills will be affected.
