Drugs in the U.S
According to research carried out by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health Use it has been found that the pervasiveness of drug use in the US has increased from 19.6% in 2008 to 21.5 in 2010 among the youths aged between 18 to 25 years (Mann). The prevalence of drug use is rising at an alarming rate for the young adults because they are growing to be illegal drug users. Even though there are other illegal drugs consumed in the US, Heroin has been classified as the major illegal, and harmful drug used by most of the young adults in the US and causes adverse side effects. The effects of heroin are unbelievable, and it is known to be destructive. Heroin is very addictive and thus makes it possible to use once a person has started using it. Some of the side effects of the drug include dry mouth, flaking of the skin, heavy feelings of the feet and the hands, hazy mind due to the collapsed veins, infection of the heart lining, constipation, swollen tissue and stomach cramping (Villagebh.com). Additionally, users of heroin are likely to suffer from kidney diseases and lung complications and various types of pneumonia (Kounang). Excess usage of heroin is not only harmful to the health of the user but also capable of death. According to a study that was carried out in Illinois, it was found out that 75% of the users were suffering from ADHD and bipolar disease (National Institute of Drug Abuse). For instance, in 2013, it was estimated that 8260 people died from the side effects of its usage (Mann). We cannot underestimate the number of individuals who succumbed due to illegal use of Heroin which should be a reason why the government should take steps towards mitigating the utilization of the drug and rehabilitating the addicts. The deaths caused by heroin not only rob the families their loved ones but also acts as a detriment to the growth of the economy because the users are supposed to be in the productive workforce category.
