Cars flew passed me, and people walked passed me. Some people noticed me as I was standing and doing nothing. They took a quick glance at me and walked away quickly. Why would they look at me? Why did they walked away so quick? Why would they think I was strange, as I was doing nothing? While I was thinking about these questions, I felt like I did not belong to this society anymore. Kenneth said that “Being a useful part of society causes one to lose perspective: if a person becomes used to her social settings, then that person will eventually fail to question the customs with which she is so familiar”(25). Now, I jumped outside of the society and began to realize that everyone including myself was bounded by the social settings. Society tells us what we are supposed to do at the given time and given place. We are so used to the social settings that we never question the purpose of them. What’s more, we don’t even realize the existence of the social settings. While I was standing and doing nothing, people regarded me as abnormal because according to the social settings, I should doing something at that place and that time. Suddenly, I felt like I finally understand the purpose of this interesting experiment and was able to jump outside of the society to observe this world from another
