In 1945 the United States took part in conflict with the Japanese as a result of the atrocities that took place at Pearl Harbor. A significant amount of Japanese civilians were wounded as a direct result of the bombings. The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Americans were spaced out by two days as they occurred on August 6th and August 9th respectively. As a result, approximately 200,000 Japanese were wounded with 130,000 fatalities . Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were large and diverse cities that fostered the majority of Japans industrial sector in 1945 so a large scale attack such as this one had very noticeable effects on the country of Japan and their people for years to come . Although the war had lasted for an immense amount of time the American public was generally not in favor of using atomic weapons . The American government needed to justify the amount of money that they used to fund the Manhattan project. The landscape of war was also changed in the process of using the atomic weapons. The redeeming quality of the bombs for the general public, was the fact that they would shorten the conflict with Japan and save American lives. Truman was quoted saying when referring to why he dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. On December 7th 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy underwent a surprise attack on the United States military base at Pearl Harbor. The U.S. suffered an astounding 2000 civilian deaths but the damage was not only in the statistics . A visceral feeling of hatred and nationalism was spreading throughout the United States as a result. The attack on Pearl Harbor was largely considered the event that brought the Americans into World War 2 and out of their isolationist foreign policy. Although this represented America 's breaking point with the Japanese there were many inciting incidents to the conflict. The U.S. was in constant disapproval of Japan’s attitude towards China. Japan believed that the only way to resolve its economic and demographic issues was to expand into neighbor territory. So when Japan declared war on China the United States tried to remove Japan from Chinese territory through trade sanctions . This left the Japanese defeated and without the necessary
